The Baardskeerdersbos Water Treatment Plant is getting back on track after the computorised control system of the plant failed on 1 January 2024.

After dedicated efforts by the Veolia team and subcontractors, it is now possible to manually control the process pumps.

The operational team has carefully restarted the plant step-by-step manually this morning and has managed to run the plant successfully. The plant now has to be manned full time during operation until the new hardware arrives. 

Current delivery of equipment is set for 12 January 2024. Allowing time for development, installing, and commissioning it is aimed to fully restore the plant by 20 January 2024.

Residents should still be urged to use water sparingly as the control of the manual process makes water production slower and trickier to meet quality standards.

Water quality issues may therefore still arise during this period.

The aim is now to fill the network and reservoir to temporarily restore the water supply.

It is envisaged that there will be a 2 – 3 day downtime again during the week leading up to 20 January whilst the new hardware is being installed and programmed.

The temporary Jo-Jo tanks will remain in place until after these processes have been completed.
